What You Must Know If You Want to Travel with Your Dog

by Dirk Gruenberg

Anyone who has ever traveled with a dog knows that there are many things one needs to think of. The health and safety of the dog is paramount, but his crate and his identification are very important, too.

Wherever your travel plans may lead you, please always make the health and safety of your dog the priority. With that being said, see a vet before going on a long trip, so that there can be one final check-up before take-off.

This will enable you to take your dog along without having to worry about his health status. And it is also important to make sure he has all the required vaccines.

Moreover, in order to make your dog comfortable on the trip and to prevent health issues, bring some of his regular dog food. It will be nice for him to get to eat something that he is already used to.

Additionally, taking some water with you or buying bottled water is a good idea. Also, it goes without saying, if your dog needs any kind of medication, make sure to bring that along, too.

Furthermore, the crate will be very important while traveling. Please be mindful that it is a good size for your dog:

It is important that he can in it as well as lie down - comfortably so. It should also have enough ventilation and a leak-proof bottom is a must.

And one last point: your dog's identification. Imagine how terrible it would be to lose your dog on your trip. Hopefully, this will never happen to you and your dog, but you never know. As far as I am concerned it is always better to be safe than sorry:

Of course, you can go the microchip route. If that is not for you, make sure to, at the very least, have your dog's name and your contact information on your dog's identification tag that is in his collar. If there is situation, you will be glad you did.
