Split King
What would cause a split in my rear exhaust pipe of a 01 Road King?
The bike usually counterproductive and pop when I accelerate hard and back from the throttle, or when I returned from the accelerator and coast to a stop.
That was a common problem. Your engine is rubber mounted and the exhaust bolts to the engine .... the xhaust bends and shakes with the engine, cross-HD's pipewas notorious for cracking in that exact spot ......... a new pipe ..... do not forget the exhaust gaskets ....... repalce NEVER again to use and look at the rubber mounts for the exhaust brakets below the saddle bags and how is the condition of the mounting bracket for the tube to the transmission top cover and side door .... damage at the points .... and your new pipe to crack. A new pipe will have better welds and joints and will take longer. Your back-fire is caused by crack. Check the condition of the rubber front engine mount, carefully inspect ANY cracks, etc. .. it is SHOT .... so worn, it will cause excessive engine movement that can help in your problem ... these mounts are notorious for wearing out. HD is now the 5th version of the mountain that seems to hold up well today. Also, a good idea at the intake manifold and carburetor seal ..... even if there is nothing wrong with it SEEMS to replace you ... their age alone, as the original would justify replacement. Also .... how many miles on the bike ..... more than 20,000 ..... you have the cam chain tensioners checked .. . HD early tensioners tend to quickly wear ... I have 4 bicycles in the shop now getting new tensioners, cam complete train replacements now ... one of them was so bad, it wiped out the crankshaft, clyinders heads and get ..... a new engine due to lack of maintenance. I know this is a bit from the rates for your main problem at hand .... Just try to give you an early heads-up on Twin Cam engine. Get a new pipe, exhaust gaskets .... and I bet you a motor mount. NOTE: It is the vibration and heat the tube to crack ..... has caused the crack, allowing the recoil of ...... .. NOT rebound allowing the crack ......... HD-tech has any seen dredging pipe tear-y compounds ....... behind the rear head and the front / rear pipe connection.
