Over time, drains and sewers, like all of us get older and in time will deteriorate and get worse. Walls can collapse, blockages can occur and the result is that you get drainage problems. The cause can be things like ground movement, intrusion from things like tree roots or it could be that the drains are simply badly constructed in the first place.better to know rather than guess at the root cause of problems underground
Clearly the fact that a drain runs underground means that you cannot see what is going on inside it. You really do need to know what is going on inside the drain or you could end up solving the wrong problem. Knowing as opposed to guessing means that you get the best possible chance of the best and cheapest solution to your drainage problem
CCTV is a way of solving this problem. CCTV or closed circuit television means that you can see inside the pipe and diagnose the exact problem. There are two types of CCTV system available, the crawler and the push rod systems. The physical and technical specifications and differences in these two systems should not bother you- just rest assured that they will find and solve the problems that you don't yet know about
The Crawler is used for larger lines 150mm upwards and the push rod is used for smaller lines 150mm downwards. By using this technology, comprehensive reports can be provided which show the condition of the drains underground. If the drains are in good shape, the very worst that has happened is that you now have peace of mind- a wonderful thing in my humble opinion
When using CCTV, there are several problems that an experienced operator can pick up. Collapsed pipes can look very similar to blockages. Tree root intrusion can also be picked up on the screen but the thing that all have in common. Surveys are then written up following assessment and they are then burned on to DVD with recommendations to solve the problems
If you are building an extension to your house, you should seriously consider having an underground CCTV survey as part of a build over survey. Avoiding this relatively small expense can cost you a lot of money and mess in the long term. Can you imaging the mess of having to dig up a floor in your house if there is a problem. Avoid this by having a build over survey in the first place
