Creating the home of your dreams does not mean you have to be a qualified Interior Decorator. You could hire one or you could follow the tips and steps laid out in decorating magazines and books. This will provide you with guidance and inspiration. Something we all struggle with is a lack of space. Most people do not make effective use of available storage space and belief that their space is insufficient. The first step is to remove things that you no longer want, things that are outdated or that you no longer use. This will result in more space for the things that you do like.
The cupboard should be your first port of call. Here you can add a hanging rod for your clothing. Hang the rods at different heights. The rod that is higher up is for the longer clothing items, like trousers and dresses. The other rod would be for clothing items that are less long. Again, in the cupboard, create more shelf space by adding an extra shelf or two. Move one of the shelves to create either more space in that shelf, or to make another shelf in between. This will give you the ability to pack clothing more economically.
Walls are another area especially in the kitchen. Installing wall shelves can free up a lot of space. Pans and pots can be hung on hooks instead of being stored in cupboards. Frequently used items, knick-knacks and photographs can go on corner shelves. This allows you to store things that you use often in readily accessible places. Linen belongs in the bedroom, DVDs in the TV room and stationery in the office or study.
Your office or study should be kept tidy as this is directly linked to your productivity. If things are stored neatly, you will be able to find it more easily and you will not need to sort through piles of papers to find something. Stationers and office supplies stores have some great storage solutions such as portable file boxes, baskets and caddies from which to choose.
If you have many things that you love, you may create clutter when you display or use them all simultaneously. These things include linens, curtains, ornaments and more. Instead, use some of it and pack the rest away. Then, rotate it every month or two, or every season. That way, your things last longer and your house is always fresh and new.
By just implementing these subtle changes, you will already alleviate the need for an Interior Decorator. However, if you have bigger, more complex plans for your home makeover then get an Interior Decorator.
