There is no doubt that the DHS hurricane II and III are rubbers one of the most popular worldwide, partly because it is so frequently used China. Without doubt, marketing and sponsoring by DHS has a lot to do with it, but the fact that many of the best Chinese players use this rubber does they have very good properties.
It is well known that the best Chinese players may not use the same version as the commercial version is available to the public. DHS has special versions of the hurricane rubbers for their Provincial and National team players. These rubbers are actually manufactured differently, or if they are hand picked as the best production of the standard version is unknown. However, according to DHS, they are chosen by the normal production cycle.
The standard commercial versions have a sponge rubber orange red and black. It is well known that there a large variation in sponge hardness between batch to batch, or possible, in each batch. This is due to different sections of the mass sponge be used to make individual rubbers. Sponge hardness varies within the sponge mass before the individual sponges are cut.
DHS produce also a commercial version with a special blue sponge. This is done only in black because the red topsheet is too translucent, so a sponge dark darken red significantly more likely beyond what is permitted under ITTF regulations. The blue sponge is known to be a little softer and more flexible and reacts better with speed glue. This version is not available it is not part of their normal production runs.
Among DHS fans are always talking about the national and provincial version. According to those who have tried the 'real thing', the leaves appear better, are more flexible and have a soft sponge. There are marks on the towel, stating that they are special version, but the signs do not always seem the same. They also do not come in standard packaging, which is logical given that these rubbers are not sold commercially, the packaging to Fancy is not needed. However, there are many fakes sheet around which try to imitate the features and markings on the rubber.
EDS used to sell their topsheet separately. It was easy for the less reputable companies to add their own sponge Low prices and markings, and sell for much more than the commercial version. After this had been ongoing for several years, DHS has recently decided to stop selling the topsheet separately to reduce the number of fake leaves around. There are still many fake leaves around.
According to DHS, the provincial and national versions of the hurricane rubbers are not sold to the public at all. They are given to national and provincial teams for their personal use. Of course there is always a great temptation for these players to make a quick profit and sell these rubbers with other players and retailers is how these rubbers find their way to the public.
According to DHS the most provincial and national rubbers out there for sale are in fact false. In the last two years or more of these rubbers are sold by some online retailers and even on Ebay, all of course they claim to be authentic. According to DHS these rubbers are not available to them by DHS, and the version number of a state or national are quite limited, so there are likely that these coatings are not authentic. As some of these sellers are known to be very honorable, and sell many other items of real it is highly likely that they believe are genuine rubber. If they are genuine or not, we can not be sure.
There are ways make commercial versions much as provincial / national versions;
One way is to accelerate the glue ... with layers to soften really fit. After that was done a few times, the leaf to become more flexible and supple permanently in the towel ... him play much closer to the version provincial / national.
Another way is to use the so-called "super seed" method is a treatment of several layers of glue VOC, which certainly has a permanent effect and works very well. It works best on the blue sponge version, but works still very much on the orange sponge version too. It's certainly a much more economical to get a hurricane softer and more flexible rubber, and much like the version provincial / national ... and best of all that you do not have to worry about whether it was authentic or not!
So is it worth paying the extra money to get a version provincial or national, but not 100% sure it is authentic? As you judge ...
