Or Queen Coris Coris Gaimard belong to the family Labridae. Queen Coris are members of a group of fish that are collectively known as wrasses. There are about 50 individual species within this group. This wrasse can be found on almost all reefs throughout the Red Sea, Indo-Pacific and all the way to Hawaii.
Adult species can easily reach a length of 14 inches in their natural habitat. They rarely exceed 6 or 7 inches in an aquarium. Juveniles and adults look radically different. The miners are the larvae almost as in form. They have bright red, orange with large organizations, irregular white ovals ringed with black on the back. Their dorsal and anal fins grow as they mature until they take on more than one fish-like appearance. Adults are most often reddish in color with a purple overcast. They have neon blue speckles all over his body and green stripes on their faces. Their caudal fin is bright yellow. These fish are sold by the aquarium trade, including under various names; Red Coris Wrasse, Coris red clown wrasse, Labridae red, and yellow tail Coris.
This is a moderately aggressive species. They are normally not intimidate their fellow tanks. However, they should be housed with fish of similar size and less temperamental. Multiples may be housed together as juveniles, but may show Territorial behavior as they mature. Queens are not suitable for configurations of marine coral. They will most inhabitants of a typical background Reef Marine as a source of nutrition.
This is one of the largest family of Napoleon and require much space. A minimum size tanks of 100 gallons is recommended. If you intend to keep the sand substrate species is a must. Three to four inches of sand on the bottom of your aquarium is sufficient. These wrasses are digging in the sand to sleep or to avoid predation. Any other choice in the substrate will greatly reduce your chances of fish survival because of self-mutilation. The wrasse queen wears a level of specialist care and should not be raised by inexperienced aquarists. This species is not yet covered by the "guaranteed to arrive alive" by many online retailers. They do not sell well and should be purchased from a local retailer.
They are diurnal hunters. They hunt for food during the day and sleep in their burrows at night. They are accomplished hunters. Minors are generally considered benign. Queens of adults can be very destructive in an aquarium setting. They are known for pulling rooted species. They often cause significant damage to coral specimens. This fish will literally leave no Random rock in its search for food.
It is a carnivore. In their natural habitat regime wrasse queen consists primarily of invertebrates, including coral, shrimp, hermit crabs, sea urchins, crabs, shellfish and an occasional tunicate. They may not recognize non-living preparations food as power source when the first time in an aquarium. Vitamin enriched artemia will probably persuade them to eat. Once they have acclimated to life aquarium diet can be supplemented with fresh seafood such as finely chopped shrimp, crabs and molluscs. They may even learn to accept food flakes and granules.
Minor has a high metabolic rate and appetite. They must be fed at least three times a day. Adult fish are less likely to wreak havoc in your tank if they have a supply of food easily instead of having to use their natural feeding instincts. This species is not known to breed in captivity.
