Created from foam first used by NASA to assist astronauts with gravity pressure while blasting off and re-entering earth, Memory Mattresses use the same 'space age' technology to give you a good nights rest. A type of foam was required for the astronauts which would fit and shape to the body and adjust to any movement of the body while distributing an even pressure.

This technology has been taken and reused in the home - visco elastic foam or memory foam is used to create memory mattresses, pillow and mattress toppers.

The beauty of memory foam is that it reacts positively to your body warmth and softens and molds. Reacting to your body's warmth and accessing your pressure points all in a minute of going to bed, a memory mattresses foam responds positively and supports you where you need it. Unlike more conventional mattresses which will go back to their usual state very fast after being laid on, memory mattresses made from Visco elastic will take much longer to return to their original state, hence you have the feeling of being really nestled in to them.

You will need to determine your own support needs and comfort levels required as memory mattresses come in a vast array of weights, thicknesses and solidity - the more solid and heavier does not always mean the best. Get the correct balance of density, solidity, weight and firmness when choosing memory mattresses. If the weight is not heavy enough or the mattress is too thin you may not get as much use as you would prefer but if you get a mattress that is too weighty it may not give you the support you need, a middle ground is a good place to start and go either side of this depending on your personal requirements.

It is important to be aware that you may not need to replace your old mattress entirely. A memory Foam Topper or memory mattresses pad which is placed directly on top of your matttress is a great option allowing you to get a few more years out of your current mattress. The topper works in the same way full foam memory mattresses do in supporting your body.
