The beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia. The land of mountains, ocean, beautiful scenery, the 2010 Olympic Games and, unfortunately, the bugs Bed! Bed bugs are a growing problem in many large cities. The amount of reported cases of bedbugs in Vancouver have doubled every year for the last 6 years. At that time New York City is one of the predominant leaders in an infestation of bed bugs. According to the Ministry of Housing Preservation and Development, there were 8830 complaints of bed bugs in the first 6 months of 2008!
For visitors coming to Vancouver, especially for the 2010 Olympics, it is likely to increase further in the infestation of bed bugs as visitors to put down their original residence.
For those who live in Vancouver or intend to travel here, there are some precautions to prevent the spread of bed bugs.
The first thing to do is inspect your bed. Look around the headboard, baseboards, mattresses and mattress. Remove the sheets and inspect the folds and seams looking for evidence of bed bugs, larvae, blood stains or smears of brown. Hopefully you will not see anything alive or dead in your inspection. For added protection, bring a fitting mattress and pillow protector to keep the bugs to surface if they hide deep in the mattress.
If you have baggage, do not leave on the floor or bed. Make sure that you place on a rack or an office away from the bed. Make sure your clothes are being sized Ziploc bags or hung up. Do not leave clothes on the bed, chairs or placed in drawers convenient hotel.
Before you leave town to visit, shake your clothes, inspect your shoes, luggage and anything else you made, and make sure everything is tightly sealed in Ziploc bags. When you arrive at your home, wash all your clothes in water hot, or put them in a dryer on the heat setting the highest for 20 minutes. You might even consider dry cleaning. Use a fitting mattress and spread diatomaceous earth around your bedroom. Diatomaceous earth has razor sharp particles which lacerate the bugs beds resulting in their deaths.
If you have any signs of bites or bed bugs on your skin, call an exterminator immediately before they become out of control. A Bed Bug is able to explain to 500 eggs in living there is generally a lifetime of 18 months.
