Love The Space You\’re In

by Eric Parker

Urban living is both a joy and convenience to many. One gets to be at the hub of commercial establishments, offices, transportation systems, and more. Life gets to be so modern and fast-paced that every resource needs to be maximized. The same principle applies to small living spaces such as condos, apartments, and studio units.

Limited floor area doesn\'t translate to cramped and boring. The opposites are actually the real deal. There is also comfort, style and function. The best part of all this? I don\'t have to spend a gazillion to make my home more appealing. With a small space, I get to save more on decorations and furniture. Now how great is that!

Choose your furnishings wisely. You want to avoid making your home a crowded space. The streets and the shopping malls can already be torture to a claustrophobe especially come rush hour time. Even if you\'re not, the crowds can be stressful. So you certainly want to make your home a comfortable and relaxing place to be. Urban living do get crazy sometimes. You need a cozy home for your quiet rest.

Make your home bigger by arranging your furniture properly. There are techniques like placing the bed against the longest wall of the bedroom, setting an area rug at an angle or using round or oval rugs instead of the usual rectangular ones, and using longer curtains to make your windows larger and the ceiling higher.

Colors help a lot too in creating an illusion of space. Say no to dark colors and welcome light colors with open arms. Light hues are not in any way boring. Mixing and matching light colors is also a good way to add vibrancy to a room. There are so many to choose from like pale yellow, ecru, pale blue, pastels and stucco. Check the color scheme for more ideas.

I\'m a big fan of dual-purpose objects. The ottoman that can double up as storage. The table that has a compartment under and the sofa that can be turned into a bed. These pieces are space savers! With storage but without actually eating up space, you get to avoid clutter and make the most of your living space. Without the mess, see how your small home becomes bigger.

I believe in the power of a home theme. This makes the interiors look coordinated and put together. There are no confusing objects or out of place items. Everything is where they\'re supposed to be. So, decide if you want a modern design or a traditional one. Do you want a Gothic look or a bohemian one? Do you want your home to look artsy or chic? Selecting your furnishings will also be a lot easier with a theme in mind.

I get my design ideas from websites and home decor magazines. I also love visiting home decor stores and just checking out their displays and newest furniture pieces. Never stop learning and never tire of getting inspiration from the things around you. Take the initiative to beautify your home. It\'s just a small space. Why lax over it?
