Liner Heater

I remember buying my first hard-sided waterbed in the early seventies. The bed was a simple case with a wooden frame, mattress, safety liner and a piece of foam. There was no riser or pedestal, no headboard, no padded rails and the pinewood frame rails were not finished.
Because the bed does not come with a heater, was the foam placed on top of the mattress, and served as an insulator from the mattress. Without a heater, the temperature of the water mattresses never above the ambient space, so that the foam had to.
After sleeping on a waterbed more than twenty years, I noticed that the basic frame design has not changed very much. Even with the introduction of pedestal type risers, the bed is still the same basic components. More advanced designs that can be found, including some very nicely finished four poster models.
I recently saw a model I can only describe as a roof. The roof was complete with mirrors and special lighting effects. There was a built-in surround sound system and my favorite feature, a flat screen television mounted above the foot of the bed. The rails were rewarded with genuine leather seats and cup holders and included a storage slot for the remote.
In the early days of waterbeds, people who have some basic carpentry skills can build a very functional waterbed frame zero. Even today, there are cheap programs available that can make your own frame much easier. The cost of a factory frame perhaps less than building a frame of zero. However, there is something about making things with his own hands, which always has a unique appeal to many of us.
Like many other consumer products, many waterbed components, including waterbed frames, which are outside the United States. Depending on the frame had been made, the quality of the wood used not to Par. Many areas of the U.S. have very strict standards air quality, which makes it expensive to apply wood finishes including stains, lacquers and paints.
Offshore producers often do not have such restrictions. The cost of wood increased steadily in recent years and frame quality could suffer if some manufacturers attempt to cut costs.
The environmental movement has help to promote the recycling of construction materials such as wood. There is a clear trend towards recycling everything from old hardware to hardwoods. Imagine, your own waterbed frame building from recycled other oak hardwood for less than the cost of a factory made pine frame.
If we average waterbed frame rail to consider is usually made of two by four inches of wood. The length depends on the size of the bed. Factory made frames will be a notch on the underside of the rail length. This makes the square notch are on track to adjust the deck and is key to the structural integrity of the bed. The manufacturer will use a router to notch.
When building a frame from scratch, carving process can be replaced by attaching a strip of wood, one inch by two inches to the inside length of the frame rail. No routing required. It frame rails can be fastened together at the corners using common door hinges. This mounting technique requires only a simple hand saw, screws, wood glue and a screwdriver. The pedestal or riser and head can also be built from recycled wood, after a series of basic frame plans.
As for finishing the frame, There are a wide variety of water-based paints and stains much less in the way of a special treatment require more volatile oil or solvent based materials.
If you have a screwdriver, hand or power saw and could use a brush, you can own your waterbed frame.
