Foam Topper
If your favorite old sofa has lost that new look and feel, then consider replacing the foam cushion. This simple project can be completed in less an hour and your sofa will look and feel like new again.
Sofa cushions contain Foam Rubber insert which is generally made from polyurethane foam. Over time, the foam cushions of your couch starts to decompose and lose that feeling now. This breakdown is accelerated by frequent use. Your guests may seem to sit 'in' on your couch, as opposed to 'to' as your sofa cushions from sagging under their weight.
There is a simple four-step process that can be completed by almost everyone and will breathe new life back into your sofa.
- Step 1 - Get accurate measurements your existing cushions. You should get the length, width and thickness of the cushions. If your cushions are not a perfect square or rectangle, the edges more feature must be measured. It is advisable to withdraw your foam from one of your cushions for these measures to ensure accuracy.
- Step 2 - Request new foam. With your existing measures in hand, you should have everything you need to determine what Size Foam cushion spare you need to order. Be aware that you can choose different levels of firmness for your new foam. Select a block of foam replacement that meets or exceeds the size of your existing cushions. In a large block of six feet of foam can be cut to size to accommodate multiple cushions.
- Step 3 - Cut your foam replacement size. Remove your old cushions of their blankets. Lay these on top of the foam to replace nine and outline the edges with a marker. You now have a model that will allow you to cut your foam according to the size and exact shape required. An electric knife is ideal for cutting foam and HRT may be done with ease. A sharp knife standard with a long blade can be used as well. Caution should always be used when handling sharp instruments. Make sure your knife is perpendicular to the foam when cutting to ensure that your replacement cushions are square.
- Step 4 - materials foam replacement cushion covers. If you are using a Dacron fiber wrap, you'll want to wrap foam replacement now. Make sure the ends of the dacron meet on the outer edges of the foam replacement to maintain the seal fiber wrap does not appear. Insert your cushion of foam in the cushion. It may be necessary to compress the foam to get it back in. Once inserted, sure all edges are square in the cushion.
