Fighting Adult Acne

by Loretta Lewis

As an adult in your 20's, 30's, 40's or maybe even 50's, you figured your issues with acne were over. To your surprise, you find yourself dealing with acne.

The worst part is, adult acne is usually the more moderate to severe types of acne. We're not talking the mild forms of acne such as whiteheads and blackheads. Instead you have pustules, papules which are considered moderate acne. You may also have severe acne such as nodular and cystic acne!

Adult Acne can cause low self esteem and even depression, because it's both physically and emotionally scarring. Who wants to bother with acne?

You may have asked yourself, what could be the cause of acne, at this time in your life. One reason could be your androgen hormones. These hormones can cause your sebaceous glands to become enlarged, causing an increase in sebum oil.

This isn't a good thing, because excess sebum oil can clog your hair follicles. Clogged follicles allow for the growth of bacteria. With bacteria AND sebum oil clogging your pores, you are now faced with acne.

Makeup and sweat can also clog your pores and contribute to acne. That's why it is important to choose the right type of makeup for your skin. It's important to use only non-comedogenic (won't clog your pores) makeup.

First, you need to figure out an aggressive treatment plan for your battle with acne. You need to see which active ingredient in your acne products will work for your type of acne. Different types of acne, respond differently to an acne product's ingredients.

There are many different products to choose from today. Some contain Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, or Benzoyl Peroxide. You will need to see which active ingredient will work best for you. Be sure to give your products time to work and be patient. Some products can take a few weeks.

I've found that for my severe types of acne, Glycolic Acid works wonders for me! I also like products with the active ingredient Salicylic Acid.

As mentioned earlier, with adult acne, It's usually the more severe form of acne. This is where you may need some internal help as well. You may need oral acne medication, BUT I STRONGLY suggest you try Rooibos Tea. I LOVE this tea and it has worked wonders on my acne!

This tea comes with the added benefit of drinking it and applying it directly to your skin. It's not only inexpensive, but easy to make and it tastes delicious.
