How is life in Alaska? need a lot of information!?

We are seriously considering the move to Alaska. I know nothing about it although in reality. What area is good for families w / children? Where is the cost of living is better, a lot of jobs, housing, etc? My husband is a forklift operator certificates and also does stone masonry, where he would be able to find jobs? What really climate? What kind of insects are there? Are there snakes? Is a big risk? Please give me any information or links you know please! Thanks! Also, we like the cold, snow and the dark days so that there is a problem!

I am one of the few people who have lived throughout Alaska - not one square mile who have not worked, hunting, fishing, fly over or been stuck, stranded or crashed a plane. I came here in 1982, brought my family in 1988, he made 7 roster with the military here (lots of moving from city to city, town to town) until I retired and now work in the private sector. Got one kid in college in the University of Fairbanks and another still in high school. My work takes me back to the East - New York, Boston - Seattle and often several times a year. Give me a chance to rediscover why my family and I like living here sooooo much. No snakes. Got real frogs, small - Lost a bet to my wife in which one refuses to leave go. The insects are not bad if you use insecticide or put boxes for the swallows to nest in - eat 3x its weight in insects every day. Bears are not a problem provided you do not go where they hang out. Dealing with bears is not a matter rocket scientist - you do not need to learn some things before going where they are. Alaska has a shortage of skilled workers and unskilled labor. Allot of jobs are not advertised - many people running here for the $ $ and the time finally fully trained - because they do not leave you can hack the time or being away from family.
