Cumulus clouds are found worldwide but most common in moist areas. Cumulus convection and clouds form when the cloud base is often less than 2000 m and can amount to 12 miles high, and 6 miles wide. Cumulus clouds are formed within the thermal columns of rising air, their basic marking the level at which condensation occurs, and this explains Why all cumulus clouds in a region have their base at the same height.
