A Beach Wedding Checklist

by Tiffany Nash

A beach wedding is a romantic's dream. The sand, water and sunshine make it such a peaceful location for a wedding. With any outdoor wedding there comes many considerations. For example, the soft sand and the sea can be a problem during the ceremony. There are many things that the wedding planners should take into account to prevent any hitch or problems that cause a delay or distraction.

Weather. This is a typical concern for any outdoor wedding. You will have to contend with the wind blowing without warning and in any and all direction which would make you wish you are in your backyard. There will be calm one moment and sudden gusts the next moment, wrecking havoc in the decors and blowing away things. You will also have think of the sun. You cannot allow your guests to be exposed to the mercy of the sun. Guests should be made aware so they can bring sunscreen and dress appropriately. Shade should also be provided. Rain is always a possibility, so the couple should rent a tent just in case.

Special Beach Concerns. Sand is porous. People sitting in chairs sink into the sand. Your best option would be to rent portable floors. The tide is another consideration. The time of the wedding should be in sync with the tide, or the ceremony should be held outside of the farthest reaches of the water at high tide. In the beaches, sound can travel far and there is also the gentle but audible splash of the tide. The couple should think about having a sound system to broadcast their wedding so guests can hear. You can expect your guests to need a restroom, so make the necessary arrangements.

If the beach does not have restrooms then the couple will have to rent those as well. Another thing for the couple to think about if using a public beach is that other people may be around. The wedding should be held far from the center of activity. The rules of the beach must also be followed, so the couple should check those out ahead of time.

The last to items are unique to a beach wedding and are sometimes not taken into account. Some of aforementioned features of a beach wedding will be influenced by the size of the guest list. Whether or not the reception will also be at the beach may bring on more things to think about as well. Beach weddings are romantic and they often go smoothly. Meticulous planning and some luck with the weather can make a beach wedding a successful event.
